4 Honda’s In Cars.com’s American Made Index

Jeep USA

For the past 11 years cars.com has been compiling their ‘American Made Index’ which lists the top 10 most American made cars on the market; not an easy task in today’s global economy.

U.S. based auto makers like GM, Ford, and Chrysler now source parts from other countries and establish and maintain assembly plants beyond our borders. The same is true for traditionally foreign manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and others who now build cars in the U.S.

The fact is that in today’s global economy, there’s no easy way to determine just how American a car is. Cars.com’s American-Made Index looks at cars on a model-by-model basis, not by manufacturer. It recognizes cars assembled in the U.S. with high domestic parts content, predominant U.S. sourcing for engines and transmissions, and high U.S. manufacturing jobs supported per vehicle.

Honda’s four places on this year’s list is nothing new. Last year more than half of the vehicles that made the index were traditionally foreign manufacturers (Honda and Toyota), and they took the the top five spots. In fact, even way back in 2006, the inaugural American Made Index listed the Toyota Camry as the third most American made car.

So, which cars made this year’s list?
